Channing Matthew Tatum, who was born on April 26, 1980, in Cullman, Alabama, USA, is an American actor, producer, and model.
Channing Tatum was born in the small town of Cullman, Alabama, to the family of the airline employee Kay Tatum and construction worker Glenn Tatum. He has Irish, French and Indian roots. When Channing was six years old, the family moved to Mississippi; he grew up on the shore of the Mississippi River in the countryside. Growing up, he was engaged in several sports - American football, athletics, baseball and martial arts, in particular kung fu.
Channing spent most of his youth in Tampa, Florida, studying at Gaither High School. Then he attended private school of Tampa Catholic High School, where he joined the football team and at the end of the school in 1998 he received a full sports a scholarship to study at Glenville State College in West Virginia, but he dropped out.
Back home, Tatum changed several sessions, having worked builder, mortgage broker, salesman in a clothing store, an assistant at the clinic for animals, and - according to the magazine Us Weekly – “exotic dancer" at a strip club under the name Chan Crawford. In 2010, the actor himself told the Australian newspaper “The Sydney Morning Herald” that he would like to make a film about this experience of a stripper, and in 2012 he starred in the film about a group of striptees "Magic Mike".
After some time, Channing moved to Miami, where he was spotted on the street by a casting agent of a model company.
After listening to Orlando, Tatum first starred as a dancer in Ricky Martin's music video for the song "She Bangs", earning $400 for it. He gained his first experience in the world of fashion industry, working for such well-known customers as Giorgio Armani and Abercrombie&Fitch. The first fashion show for the men's magazine “Men's Health” with his participation took place in the Level Nightclub in South Beach in Miami, in November 2000. In 2002, Channing tried himself in shooting commercials for Mountain Dew and Pepsi, after which he signed a contract with the Modelling Agency in Miami and changed the image, shortening his hair. During the same period, Tatum began to appear on the covers and pages of Vogue, Citizen K, Contents, Out Magazine and Elegance Magazine, participating in the advertising campaigns of Abercrombie&Fitch, Nautica, Dolce&Gabbana, American Eagle Outfitters, Emporio Armani, and also working on contract with Beatrice Model Agency (Milan) and Ford Models (New York). In October 2001, Channing Taitum was included in the list of "50 Most Beautiful Persons" of the magazine “Tear Sheet”.
Tatum says that his modelling career helped him deal with his life: "My life and the life of my family have become easier, because I never knew what I want to do in the future, and now I do not have to worry about it - I had the opportunity to learn life, and soon I realized that I like art: I like to write, play movies, like doing things that mean a lot to me. I had a chance to see the world around, and not everyone is lucky".
For the first time Tatum appeared on television in 2004 in an episodic role in the popular series - "CSI: Miami Crime Scene." In 2005, a series of unobtrusive films followed: an episode in the drama "Coach Carter" (the actor also appeared in the rapper Twista's video for the song "Hope", included in the soundtrack of the film), a young man in the church in "The War of the Worlds" Steven Spielberg (in the title of the name of Tatum not specified, since the scene was cut from the final version of the picture), a biker in the Supercross, a young man in the “Havoc”. Soon, Tatum decided to leave the modelling business for a while and take the big movie business seriously. According to rumours, it was Tatum who was to perform the role of Genghis Khan in the epic film of Sergei Bodrov "Mongol", but it was replaced by actor Tadanobu Asano. It was then that the actor was noticed by the producer of the blockbuster Lauren Schuler Donner, who invited Tatum to the main male role in the youth comedy "She is the Man". In the same year, 2006, Tatum achieved a breakthrough in his career, receiving the main male role of hip-hop dancer in the youth musical melodrama "Step Up", which started in the US theatres on August 11 and the film was a resounding success. Then followed the shooting in the nostalgic drama "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints", in which Tatum played the role of a street boy Antonio along with Robert Downey Jr., Shia Labaf and Diane Uist. Tatum calls Antonio's role "his first serious dramatic role"; at the Sundance Film Festival, where the premiere of the film took place, his performance earned the favorable response of critics.
Together with friends and Jenna's wife, Duan founded 33andOut Productions, where they are going to make films. Their first documentary "Earth Made of Glass” is about the president of Rwanda Field Kagame and survivors of the genocide Jean-Pierre Sagahutu. The premiere took place in April 2010 at the "Tribeca" film festival.
