UPDATE: Derek Greer, 15, and Natalie Partida, 16, two friends, were found murdered and left by a roadside in Colorado on March 12, 2017.
They were found by a passing motorist on the remote Old Pueblo Road, 15 miles south of Colorado Springs.
New details reveal that they both were shot multiple times in the 'execution position' over a dispute about a stolen purse, police said.
The fresh details emerged on Thursday, when a court released warrant affidavits for the five suspects charged with killing Derek and Natalie.
Charged with first-degree murder are Gustavo Antonio Marquez, 19; the alleged triggermen Diego Carlos Chacon, 19, and Marco Antonio Garcia-Bravo, 20; and alleged co-conspirators Alexandra Marie Romero, 22, and Joseph Arthur Rodriguez, 18.
The fatal events were triggered when Rodriguez accused Natalie of stealing his girlfriend's purse at a house party, according to police.
Marquez told investigators that he was with Chacon, and Bravo when the trio picked up the two victims and took them to Rodriguez's home on March 11.
Derek Greer was apparently brought along simply because he was a friend of Natalie.
Rodriguez threatened them with a crowbar before the victims were bundled back into the car, according to the affidavits.
In the car, Chacon held a gun to Natalie's stomach as she begged for her life, Marquez told police.
Bravo handed Natalie a cell phone and offered her a chance to say goodbye to her family, but then grabbed it back and said 'you lost your chance' when she didn't log into Facebook, Marquez said.
When they got to a remote stretch of Old Pueblo Road, Marquez said the victims 'were forced to take the "execution position".
Marquez said that Chacon shot Natalie twice and then handed the gun to Bravo who shot Derek multiple times.
Police recovered five 9mm shell casings at the murder scene.
Police say that cell phone data and surveillance footage corroborated Marquez's confession.
Derek's mother said the hardest part of all of this is "knowing my son died for nothing. None of it had anything to do with him." Continue to rest peacefully Natalie and Derek...
