About Dwayne Douglas Johnson
Dwayne Douglas Johnson, also known as The Rock, is an American-Canadian wrestler and actor of African-Samoan descent. As a wrestler, he was one of WWE's most successful players. Since his father Wayde Bowles and his grandfather Peter Maivia were also wrestlers, he was considered the first "third generation superstar".
Johnson was trained by his father. For the first time, he wrestled in 1995 under the name Flex Kavana for the United States Wrestling Association (USWA), where he twice won the local Tag Team title.
At the Survivor Series in 1996, Johnson debuted under the name "Rocky Maivia," in homage to his father and grandfather. As a result, he won on February 13, 1997, the WWF Intercontinental Championship of Triple H. On April 28, 1997, he gave the title to Owen Hart. Shortly thereafter, Johnson paused. On his return in the summer he joined the wrestling stable Nation of Domination and called himself henceforth "The Rock". On December 8, 1997, he won the Intercontinental title again. After several months of regency, he lost the title in a ladder match at SummerSlam 1998 Triple H, whereupon the Stable was dissolved. After Johnson's winning the WWF Championship at the 1998 Survivor Series, he became a member of Vince McMahon's Stable Corporation. After a long feud against Mankind, he eventually lost his title to Steve Austin at WrestleMania XV.
Johnson left the Corporation followed by feuds against Undertaker, Triple H, Billy Gunn, the British Bulldog and Big Show. With Mick Foley in 1999 he formed the tag team Rock'n'Sock-Connection which won the tag team title three times. At the 2002 Backlash big event, he won Triple H's WWF Championship, but lost it to Kurt Angle in No Mercy 2000. At No Way Out, he regained the title of Angle. At WrestleMania 17 Johnson lost the title again to Steve Austin.
Johnson appeared only sporadically as an active wrestler, as he moved his film career in the foreground. And also, Johnson announced in the October 2006 Washington Post online edition that he would withdraw completely from wrestling.
However, during the Raw issue on February 14, 2011, Johnson was introduced as the host of WrestleMania XXVII (April 3, 2011) and returned to the WWE after seven years. In the Raw edition after this major event, a match was announced against John Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII the following year. The feud against Cena reached its climax at WrestleMania XXVIII on April 1, 2012, with a victory for Johnson.
On July 23, 2012 Johnson joined again in the context of the 1000th episode of RAW. He announced that he will compete at the Royal Rumble 2013 against the reigning WWE champion. On January 27, 2013, he won a match against CM Punk at the Royal Rumble and received the WWE Champion title for the eighth time. At the Elimination Chamber, Johnson successfully defended the title for the first time and then presented a newly designed WWE Championship belt at the subsequent RAW issue on February 18. He returned the title to John Cena at WrestleMania XXIX.
Johnson appeared in several blockbuster action films such as The Mummy Returns (2001), The Scorpion King (2002), the action comedy The Rundown (2003), and the remake of Walking Tall (2004). He played a supporting role in Be Cool (2005) and was the primary antagonist in Doom (2006). Roles in Gridiron Gang (2006) and Reno 911!: Miami (2007) soon followed. Johnson played against type in Southland Tales (2007). He played a cocky famous American football player in The Game Plan (2007) and Agent 23 in Get Smart (2008).
