Luis Alberto "Lucho" Suárez Díaz (24 January 1987 in Salto) is a Uruguayan footballer. Since July 2014, the striker is under contract to the Spanish club FC Barcelona in the Primera División. His nickname is El Pistolero ("the gunman"). Luis Suárez is the record scorer of the Uruguayan national team, who enjoys the highest recognition in his home country and has already received numerous prestigious awards internationally for his outstanding footballing achievements.

At the same time, Suárez is internationally notorious for a conspicuous accumulation of sometimes serious violations of fair-play thinking and explicit rules of sporting behaviour. In March 2009, Suarez married his long-time girlfriend Sofia Balbi in Amsterdam. The church wedding took place later in Uruguay. The couple had been dating since 2002 in Montevideo. The two years younger Sofía was then 13 years old. At the age of 16 Sofía moved with him in Groningen. The relationship with Balbi, whose parents emigrated with her from Uruguay to Barcelona in October 2003, was a major motivating factor for Suárez, who sat after the spatial separation to the goal of following his girlfriend as a professional footballer to Europe.

Since August 2010, Suárez is the father of a Barcelona-born daughter named Delfina. He is also the father of a son born in England named Benjamin. On his right wrist he has a tattoo with the name of his daughter. Parts of Liverpool's followers have suggested that the tattoo is an anagram of Anfield, also related to his former employer. However, Suárez made it clear that this was a coincidence and pointed out that his daughter was born before he moved to Liverpool.

His older brother Paolo Suárez is also a football professional, is a striker with AD Isidro Metapán in El Salvador under contract and acquired in November 2011 at the behest of the national football association, the Salvadoran citizenship. However, due to existing FIFA rules, he has not yet been nominated for an international match. His brother Maximiliano Suárez also works as a footballer in El Salvador.
